This varies from club to club depending on the organisation that they belong to. At the Cambridge Zanshin Black Belt Academy all plain Brown Belts practise Bassai dai for their grading to Brown/White. All Brown and Stripe Belts practise one of the other four brown belt katas (Kanku Dai, Hangetsu, Enpi and Jion) duepending on which kata has been selected for that grading period.
